Quadratic formula

For $ax^2 + bx + c = 0$ with $a \neq 0$:

$$x = \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac}}{2a}$$

The discriminant is $D = b^2 - 4ac$. If $D > 0$ there are two real roots, if $D = 0$ one repeated root, and if $D < 0$ no real roots.
